The Pasquale Calò Green Pilot Tour in Catalonia was designed as a practical experiment in reducing the environmental impact of live music while maintaining high artistic standards and strong audience engagement. Organised by Puglia Sounds – Consorzio Teatro Pubblico Pugliese, with the involvement of EJN members Ultramar and Taller de Músics, the tour took place entirely within a 140 km radius of Barcelona, allowing for a compact, carefully planned routing.

Thanks to this geographical proximity, the band was able to stay in the same apartment in Barcelona for the entire week, significantly reducing accommodation-related waste. Avoiding daily room changes helped limit water and energy consumption, while also allowing the musicians to cook their own meals, further lowering the tour’s environmental footprint.

Travel between venues was managed using the personal car of one band member based in Barcelona, minimising additional transport needs. All venues involved in the tour were plastic-free, and promotion was carried out entirely online, eliminating the need for printed posters or flyers.

Beyond logistical choices, the tour also included a direct contribution to environmental action. A percentage of the tour’s revenue was donated to Reforesta, a Spanish foundation dedicated to reforestation projects. During the planning phase, the organisers made a conscious decision to replace symbolic green actions, such as seed-paper printing, with a larger financial contribution to reforestation efforts, recognising their more tangible and measurable impact.

The project also placed strong emphasis on education and exchange. On the band’s day off, following the opening concert in Vic, Pasquale Calò led a workshop at the Taller de Músics bachelor school (ESEM) in Barcelona. The session attracted strong student participation and created a valuable opportunity for dialogue with emerging musicians, opening the door to future collaborations and artistic exchanges.

With four out of six concerts sold out, the tour demonstrated that sustainable choices can go hand in hand with artistic success and audience interest. This Green Pilot Tour confirmed that, when sustainability is embedded in every stage of planning and supported by strong local partnerships, it becomes a concrete, effective and replicable model — not an abstract ideal.
