After what is looking up to be one of the best Oslo jazzfestivals ever 9 - 15. August, we are proudly opening Victoria - Nasjonal jazzscene for a fantastic Autumn concert program. The first show is with a reborn modern classic from the Norwegian jazz pantheon: Cimota.
This band, led by the extraordinary pianist Håvard Wiik, is a reinvention of Atomic, who for 20 years were known for their way of mixing high-octane free jazz with elements from contemporary music and classical jazz until they parted ways in 2022 with 14 albums in their catalogue. Atomic was a highly respected and beloved band, and their farewell concerts were covered as the cultural and slightly mournful event they were.
Out of the ashes rose Cimota, without the Swedes Magnus Broo and Fredrik Ljungkvist, but enhanced with the incredibly fine wind players Eivind Lønning, trumpet and Espen Reinertsen, saxophones. By themselves, these two form the duo Streifenjunko, which for years has stretched and explored the possibilities of this intimate ensemble. United, Cimota are two strong forces destined to find new solutions and new music. This evening you as an audience will experience redefined frames and an expanded understanding, guaranteed!
Håvard Wiik has written completely new music and we are very proud to open the autumn season with a world premiere!
