The Europe Jazz Network (EJN) is a membership association of like-minded organisations composed of festivals, venues and clubs, and national / regional umbrella organisations, that are committed to supporting the development of the creative and improvised music sector in Europe and beyond.


Members join EJN to:

  • Cooperate with the other 200+ members.
  • Collect and share information with other members and the wider community.
  • Establish models of good professional practice.
  • Exchange and develop artistic ideas with other members.
  • Invest and build resources for EJN members and the wider sector.
  • Advocate for jazz and creative music in Europe.
  • Take part in European Union’s programmes.
  • Support and encourage creativity.

 
Criteria for being accepted as a member:

  • To have as a main focus of activity the curation and presentation of live jazz, creative and improvised music (directly organising the artistic programme of a festival, concert series, club and/or venue) or the support and/or promotion of jazz, creative and improvised music (national/regional support organisations that work for the public interest)
  • To produce/support a sufficient quantity of events per year to be considered a regular presenter of this form of music.
  • To be legally established as an organisation for at least 3 years and to show at least 3 years of activity in the field.
  • To be able to demonstrate a focus on high artistic quality and also on European creative music, alongside music from outside Europe, in the programmes produced/supported.
  • To demonstrate commitment to the philosophy and activities of EJN expressed in the "EJN Manifesto" of 2004, and the other EJN Manifestos, Charters and Codes of Conduct, both in terms of future plans and through work undertaken in the past.


Membership Rights and Responsibilities:

  • Each member pays an annual membership fee of  €1.000,00 which contributes to the network's general running costs. The membership fee includes free registration and allows a contribution to travel and accommodation costs to the annual General Assembly, during the European Jazz Conference.
  • EJN members are expected to join and contribute to the various working groups, which have the responsibility for taking forward a number of projects that will advance the organisation's aims.
  • Each member has access to the EJN Europe-wide communication services for communicating news and information about their own activities and events.
  • Members each have a vote at the General Assembly that elects the Board of Directors and the President.
  • The Board is responsible for taking forward the work of the EJN and for establishing its long term strategy.
  • Board members all work for EJN on a voluntary, unpaid basis.
  • Members cannot derive a commercial profit from their activities within EJN.

 
Joining the Europe Jazz Network
Organisations wishing to join EJN should submit their details and state their commitment in the following form. The request is sent to the Board of Directors who will consider that application against the criteria that are listed above during the following Board meeting and, if approved, will formally admit the organisation to membership.
