In the last decade, Jamie Peet has proven himself as a jazz drummer for a new generation, seamlessly blending jazz with hip-hop, classical music, and electronic influences. He has established himself as a prominent voice in both the Dutch and European music scenes.

Last year, BIMHUIS invited Jamie Peet for REFLEX: a series by BIMHUIS Productions, in which musicians are invited to reflect on the pulse of our times through composition, curation and performance. The projects are recorded live from our stage.

For the occasion formed a band with saxophonist Ben van Gelder, bassist Pat Cleaver and renowned Blue Note vibraphonist Joel Ross. 'I believe in symbiosis', writes Jamie to us when asked about his band. 'In how differences can support, challenge, and strengthen each other. When individual voices truly listen to one another, space is created for something new. I think that is precisely where the strength of this formation lies.’

For Daily New Beginning, Jamie Peet departs from the concept of shoshin, which stands for the ‘beginner’s mind’. According to this philosophy from Zen Buddhism you approach each situation with a humble, open attitude, whatever your level or experience.

BIMHUIS Productions is the in-house production house of the Amsterdam jazz venue BIMHUIS. BIMHUIS Records has previously released work by Misha Mengelberg, Sun-Mi Hong, and Kit Downes, among others.
