"In summary, my experience was even better then I was expecting it to be. The entire time I felt welcome and part of the team. It's such nice way to get to know a different organisation and to see the differences in work and culture."

During my exchange, I helped with productional matters for the JAZZIAM conference in Barcelona.
The first two days were mostly spend at the Taller de Musics office in the center of the Barcelona where Rosa Galbany and Mar Estartus showed me the way they've worked on the pre-production and what was still left to do. On the second day we also went to the venues Ocana and Jamboree where the conferences and showcases would be held. We set up some technical requirements and prepared some more things for the conferences.
On the third day Rosa and I went back to the venues to prepare some more things and discuss some requirements with the venue staff. In the afternoon Rosa explained a lot about what they do with their organisation Taller de Musics. Getting some real insight in their organisation this way was really valuable and also made me feel really part of the team for the rest of my stay. On the fourth day the the conferences started. We got there early in the morning to prepare the check-in counter for all the delegates that would arrive that day and to. set-up the rest of the conference spaces. I spend most day welcoming the delegates to the venues and helping them out with any possible questions. A lot of Dutch delegates also arrived this day which was a pleasant sight as well. After the afternoon program, I got to see a lot of the showcase concerts which was amazing.
On the fifth day, the second day of the conference. There was a Dutch focus on the conferences as well as the showcases. Frank van Berkel, a colleagues whom I work closely with at the Bimhuis, was part of a presentation which I hosted together with numerous other Dutch delegates. The showcase concerts also contained multiple bands who are based in Amsterdam and who I consider good friend. Overall this day was amazing and great for catching up, networking and meeting new people. On the sixth day, also my last day in Barcelona, Rosa invited me together with some other Dutch delegates for a walking tour around the city, a concert of another good friend of mine and finally dinner all together. This was the free activity she had planned for me and the other Dutch delegates and we had a great time. It was a great opportunity to get to know some people on a more personal level and to really connect.
In summary, my experience was even better then I was expecting it to be. The entire time I felt welcome and part of the team. It's such nice way to get to know a different organisation and to see the differences in work and culture. Most of all, it was such an amazing way to network and connect with people from all over the European jazz scene. I'm still very much in touch with the people I've met on this trip and it has even lead to a new production job for the inJazz festival after meeting Mark van Schaik. I could not be more grateful to have Mar and Rosa as my hosts for they have truly done everything they can to make me feel comfortable and welcome. They are amazing people and I can't wait to welcome them in Amsterdam during the inJazz festival, where Mar will be helping me out during het EJN staff exchange!
