Scandinavian highlights in October!
Image

Oslo is beautiful this time of year, and if you are considering a trip to the Norwegian capital this October, we also have your jazz fix waiting! Your friendly jazz club in the North whips up an amazing program from Wednesdays through Saturday, here is a small excerpt sampling Nordic greats:

Arcanum is a quartet of seasoned musicians in brilliant form, delivering music that is both tender and possesses a clear forward momentum.

Behind the name we find four leading musicians: The Norwegians, trumpeter Arve Henriksen and saxophonist Trygve Seim, Swedish bass player Anders Jormin, and Finnish drummer Markku Ounaskari. In this band, echoing the spirit of the Ornette Coleman Quartet, they display focused interplay and an inventive approach in compositions, made both individually and as a group. This is Scandinavian jazz at its very finest!

Trondheim Jazz Orchestra has been a truly unique, creative force in the Norwegian jazz sphere since it was established in the year 2000. With original, newly composed music they have performed and recorded with both Norwegian and international jazz profiles.

This new project is lead by vocalist and composer Karoline Wallace, an ambitious and forward-looking artist known for her open, playful, and poetically exploratory musical universes. This commissioned work with the Trondheim Jazz Orchestra use as it's starting point conversations, both human and non-human, and the idea that communication can be understood as something more than just words.

Marius Neset possesses a youthful energy, yet his career has actually spanned more than 20 years by now. At the age of 20, he toured the world with some of the musicians in this Quintet, performing in Europe, the USA, Asia, and North Africa. He has subsequently led bands under his own name before being commissioned to write major orchestral works for the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra, Bergen Big Band, DR Big Band, Trondheim Jazz Orchestra, as well as three orchestral pieces for the London Sinfonietta.

This band, the Marius Neset Quintet, reflects his international connections, with musicians from England and Sweden as well as Norway, handpicked for their personalities, creativity, and the musical flair that allows for freedom within the compositions. You can look forward to a brilliant evening of virtuosic, beautiful music in the best company.
