In these disrupting times, most contact is digital, and we are yearning for real life concerts and encounters. On the plus side, in the digital world international friends and colleagues are no further away than the ones in our home towns and it becomes clear that sustainable, long-term contacts are key. Despite, or perhaps even because of this situation, we have been building up our ideas around Stepping Stone. Some of you might already have heard about this: Stepping Stone revolves around a creator-centered approach to talent development in music.

It is a community initiated by JazzLab and Powered by TINC, designed to share ideas and connect with multiple international partners. Stepping Stone at the same time is inviting many more to endorse the basic principles in their own projects or work.

Stepping Stone works bottom-up, starting with the creators and their ambitions. It aims for sustainable connections. Think: “give a man a fish and you feed him for a day; teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime.” It works towards long-term personal contacts and sharing of knowledge and experience. The idea is to unite various music projects of multiple international partners that focus on the creators, on their career development and personal relationships. At the same time the identity, ownership and flexibility of each project, organisation and creator is maintained.

On Thursday 25 June from 14h30 to 15h20 we present Stepping Stone during the inJazz online conference. All information on the session and speakers can be found here. You can join us for the presentation and discussion by registering for inJazz via this link, and if all official seats are taken, you can follow everything on the JazzLab facebook page.

Members so far include Handelsbeurs Concert Hall, Dock Zuid, Stadtgarten, SoundOut/Arts&Parts, Music:LX and a growing number of participating musicians.

Let’s walk this path together, one step at a time. Hope to see you at the launch at inJazz.
