The International Massimo Urbani Award wants to honour the legendary gifted roman saxophonist Massimo Urbani’s memory. The Award was created and founded by Paolo Piangiarelli, owner of the “Philology Label” and tireless promoter of young jazz talents. The Award aims to find rising young musicians and to contribute to the development of their artistic careers and to the spread of jazz music.

COMPETITION ANNOUNCEMENT

Art. 1 The International Massimo Urbani Award 2022 (named PIMU) is carried out in a final step in Camerino, in the province of Macerata, Marche region on June 25-26, 2022.
 
Art. 2 The competition is open to Italian and foreign jazz soloists playing any instrument (including voice). Musicians who have already taken part in the competition can also apply, except for those who ranked first, second or third in the previous editions.
 
Art. 3 Application forms for the PIMU must be sent before May 15, 2022 (evidence will be constituted by the date of receipt of the e-mail with all the required material).

Candidates must send their application form, duly filled in, to segreteria@musicamdo.it attaching the following documents:
- Application form including name, date of birth, address, telephone number and e-mail address (e-mail account is mandatory, all communications will be done via e-mail);
- Artistic CV;
- Good quality files video with a minimum of 3 jazz standards;
- A high resolution photo;
- Copy of the registration fee payment.

Art. 4 Candidates will pay a 50,00€ entry fee (as described in the attached application form). In the case of admission to the final stage in Camerino, the entry fee will be completed with the additional payment of 50,00€.

Art. 5 After a first selection through the listening of video and audio files, and within May 29, 2022 the Artistic Direction will give notice of the candidates admitted to the final stage in Camerino (June 25-26, 2022).

Art. 6 Premio Massimo Urbani’s final step will take place according to the following general schedule:
Camerino (MC), Saturday June 25, 2022: Premio Massimo Urbani final stage. Admitted candidates will be accompanied by a jazz Trio: Massimiliano Rocchetta (piano), Gabriele Pesaresi (double bass), Massimo Manzi (drums).
Camerino (MC), Sunday June 26, 2022: Premio Massimo Urbani 2022 Winner live concert with the Chief Judges’ band.

Art. 7 All candidates will be asked to perform playing jazz standards.

Art. 8 During the final stage, the Jury will be composed of Baptiste Herbin, Massimo Morganti, the jazz Trio that accompanies the candidates, Daniele Massimi (Musicamdo Jazz’s President), Maurizio Urbani (musician and Massimo Urbani’s brother), and otherpersonalities from the world of jazz music.

Art. 9 The jury will assign the following awards:
-
Premio Internazionale Massimo Urbani
-“Paolo Piangiarelli” Award
which includes recording, mixing and mastering of the winner’s artistic project;
- NUOVO IMAIE Award, in line with the requirements of the grant received from Nuovo IMAIE, the winner will be awarded with a 6 concerts tour within the following 12 months;
- Scholarships for jazz workshops in Italy like Nuoro Jazz and Fara Music Summer School.

Art. 10 Other awards will be assigned:
- Audience Award, to the artist most voted by the audience of the final stage;
- Social Award, to the artist most voted by the web audience;
- Critics Award, a special award given by a jury composed of specialized journalists and artistic directors.

Art. 11 The Jury reserves the right not to assign the Premio Massimo Urbani Award, according to artistic evaluations. 

Art. 12 The organization does not assume any liability for accidents that may happen before, during and after the competition.

Art. 13 The whole event will be organized in compliance with the anti-covid safety regulations in force. In case there will not be the conditions to organize the event, the registration fees will be refunded to the canditates.

Art. 14 Enrolling in the PIMU 2022, all candidates reserve to the organization the right to film or record their public image and performances during PIMU 2022 (including in each case, but not limited to interviews, auditions, photos, etc.) and to use them on all possible communication channels.

Art. 15 Enrolling in the PIMU 2022 imply full acceptance of this competition announcement. The Regulation is published both in Italian and in English language. In the case of any inconsistency, the text in Italian language shall prevail.
