NovaraJazz Season 2017/2018

Novara is preparing for a new jazz music season. Corrado Beldì and Riccardo Cigolotti (NovaraJazz artistic directors) announce an intense program of 40 appointments starting on Thursday, October  12 to Monday, April 30 with the great celebration of International Jazz Day.

The fifteenth season was anticipated by the Alexander Hawkins (piano) & Gabriele Mitelli (trumpet) concert organized in the Azienda Vitivinicola Barbaglia in Cavallirio, where the notes were combined with the flavors of the territory (in collaboration with La Rada).

NovaraJazz confirms the partnership with Istituto Musicale Brera. And so, Auditorium Brera is the main stage that hosts the great national and international artists will play in Novara. It starts Saturday, October 14 with Ada Montellanico Sings: Ada Montellanico in duo with Antonio Zambrini (piano) share the spirit of research and the compositional vein. Saturday, November 4 Eve Risser play in a piano solo concert.

On Saturday, November 18, NovaraJazz has a double set: Borders with Roberta Racis (performer), Francesco Diodati (guitar) and Ermanno Baron (drums), an original production of Enrico Bettinello in collaboration with NovaraJazz and Balletto di Roma; it goes on with a Francesco Diodati guitar solo.

On Saturday 2 December NovaraJazz set an exclusive concert by Agrakal: Marco Colonna (clarinet), Augustì Fernandez (piano), Zlatko Kaučič (percussion). It is a new trio involving three musicians capable of crossing cultures and attitudes and developing a new language.

On Saturday, January 20 Dave Burrell (pianist and conductor) return on NovaraJazz stage with Ararat Ensemble Orchestra. They take on some themes from the 1979 Burrell opera "Windward Passages" and it will be combined with the compositions of his repertoire.

On Saturday, February 10 NovaraJazz sets two concerts both with piano and sax: the first with A - S E P T i C, a project designed by Stefano Ferrian (saxophone) and Simone Quatrana (piano); and then Trevor Watts & Veryan Weston go back to playing together.

On Saturday, March 3 the stage hosts Tomasz Dąbrowski Ocean Fanfare: Tomasz Dąbrowski (trumpet), Sven Dam Meinild (sax), Richard Andersson (double bass), Peter Bruun (drums). Ocean Fanfare is an international group with some of the most important musicians and improvisers from Poland and Denmark. They are looking for how modern jazz plays in the new millennium. The concert is supported by the Polish Institute of Rome.

Season NovaraJazz – Special Events
On Saturday October 21 the Oleggio Philharmonic Orchestra plays in the Civic Theater of its city, after the great success of the concert conducted by Polish musician Marcin Masecki last June for NovaraJazz 2017. The concert is realized with the contribution of Fondazione Piemonte dal Vivo.

Mare Culturale Urbano in Milan is a new location for NovaraJazz concerts with (Friday, November 10) with French pianist Eve Risser (piano and direction) and NovaraJazz Collective, an ensemble with Francesco Chiapperini (bass clarinet, alto sax, flute), Filippo Cozzi (tenor sax, alto sax), Vito Emanuele Galante (trumpet), Francesca Petrolo (trombone), Simone Lobina (guitar), Roberta Brighi electric bass), Fabrizio Carriero (drums). On Tuesday, March 13 the Milan stage hosts Johnny Lapio & Arcote Project with Johnny Lapio (trumpet), Giuseppe Ricupero (sax), Alessandro Cisarò (piano), Antonio Raiola (double bass), Davide Bono (drums).

Taste of Jazz @ Opificio - Cucina e Bottega
After the success of past editions, the collaboration with Opificio in Novara is renewed. Every Thursday from October 12 to March 29 a different band will play for Taste of Jazz: 21 appointments in which music, food and wine will blend into a real delusion of senses. The artistic direction of the exhibition is provided by the clarinetist and NovaraJazz's friend Francesco Chiapperini.

Taste of Jazz concerts are part of a circuit in seven clubs between Piedmont and Lombardy: on Monday at Birrificio in Turin, on Tuesday at Mare Culturale Urbano and at Vinile in Milan, on Wednesday at Country Inn in Ivrea, on Thursday at Opificio in Novara, on Friday at BSA in Vercelli, on Saturday at Torino Jazz Club. More than 90 concerts signed by NovaraJazz's direction.

International Jazz Day
On Monday, April 30 NovaraJazz celebrates the UNESCO International Jazz Day with Roger Rota Octo: Roger Rota (soprano sax), Eloisa Manera (violin), Francesco Chiapperini (sax alto, clarinet, basso clarinetto), Andrea Ferrari (sax baritone, bass clarinet), Andrea Baronchelli (trombone tuba), Alberto Zanini (electric guitar), Roberto Frassini Moneta (electric bass), Filippo Sala (drums, synth). Roger Rota set for this project music and composition for big ensemble.

Apertivi in... Jazz @ Piccolo Coccia
For the sixth season NovaraJazz signs the program for Aperitivi in... Jazz concerts of Teatro Coccia in Novara: four Sundays at Piccolo Teatro Coccia with Di Vi Kappa 3 (22 October), Giorgia Sallustio 5tet “Tribute to Bill Evans" (19 November), Simone Locarni Quartet “Tribute to Luigi Tenco” (3 December), Quartetto Swing Italiano (28 January).
