JazzLab is getting ready for – finally! - the next edition of Criss Cross Europe, together with our partners. Criss Cross Europe brings together 6 promising young jazz and impro musicians from 6 European countries to form a pan-European band. During a five-day residency period these musicians work together, guided by experts and an artistic coach, a flag-bearer of the international jazz scene. This year’s coach is Jim Black, one of the most influential drummers of the contemporary jazz scene. The residencies are concluded by a concert tour that takes the band to prominent venues in the 6 countries involved in the project. Throughout the residencies the partners meet to investigate the ingredients that help build international music careers.

This year’s Criss Cross partners are Estonia Jazz Union, Jazzkaar & KUMU (Estonia), Edinburgh Jazz & Blues Festival (Scotland), Improvised Music Company (Ireland), Paradox, Lantarenvenster, TivoliVredenburg & AMPA (The Netherlands), Opderschmelz & Music LX (Luxemburg) and Music Centre De Bijloke & JazzLab (Belgium). The selected musicians for this edition are: Nabou Claerhout (trombone, B), Sanne Rambags (vocals, NL), Chris Guilfoyle (guitar (IRL), Michel Meis (drums, LUX), Aleksander Paal (alto sax, EST) and David Bowden (bass, SCO). The musicians and coach get together for a residency in Tallinn (organized by our Estonian partner) from 10-15 Oct and will perform in Estonia, Luxemburg and the Netherlands in October, and Belgium, Ireland and Scotland in December.
