In early 2026, a new cultural centre Nekalab will open in the former Nekala School building in Tampere. Operated by Livelaboratorio Tampere Oy (the same company that operates G Livelab Tampere), the building is currently undergoing a major renovation that will transform it into a vibrant home for art, culture, and community life.
Nekalab provides workspaces for more than one hundred professionals in the arts and cultural sectors, while also offering inspiring opportunities for local residents, associations, and businesses. The centre will include a library, the Adult Education Centre of the Tampere Region, Nekalab’s own restaurant, and a versatile event space designed to bring people together and to create shared cultural experiences.
Nekalab meets the rising demand for creative workspaces in Tampere and aims to establish itself as a notable and internationally renowned meeting place for creators and the general public alike.
Artists will move into their new studios in January 2026, and the centre will open to the public in March 2026.
