Melting the Oslo snow with jazz

As a Norwegian, you need to stay positive in the face of all the hardships nature throws at you. There is a mantra up here that roughly translates to “There is no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothing.” (in Norwegian it rhymes). So we button up, put spikes on our shoes and present a warm, exciting and slightly eclectic program at our lovely jazz club Victoria. It’s called… “The Spring program”!

When you read this, most of the program is announced. We will have visits from international greats such as Jakob Bro Large Ensemble feat. Melissa Aldana, Marquis Hill – Composers Collective, Bill Frisell Trio, Zoh Amba’s Bhakti, Chris Potter & Craig Taborn Duo, Tania Giannouli, Bill Charlap Trio, Mark Guiliana, Kris Davis Trio, John Surman and NOUT.

Of course, there'll be fantastic Norwegian and Scandinavian acts as well, such as Rohey Taalah & Martin Myhre Olsen, Eroica I, Bobo Stenson trio, Cimota! (Atomic backwards, get it?), Paal Nilssen-Love Circus + Ex guitars, Jacob Young Trio, Simin Tander New Quartet, Petter Wettre’s Standard Reunion, Maridalen and Ellen Andrea Wang – Closeness.

And so much more: We have started our own world-music-meets-jazz festival called OKFEST! For three days the audience can experience some of the best musicians from abroad living in Oslo, teaming up with their Norwegian counterparts. We’ll have concerts with Kouame Sereba + Rolf-Erik Nystrøm, Bafana Nhlapo + Olve Flakne, Inger Hannisdal Ensemble, Oluf Dimitri’s Buffet + Marianna Sangita and Canberk Ulaş + Benedikte Kløw Askedalen + Eivind Aarset. Every night is rounded off with a curated jam session. The festival takes place from 20 to 22 February.

Nasjonal jazzscene will also continue to showcase young musicians through our concert series with OJKOS, unestablished bands in our free entry series Uhørt!, concerts for children and even some concerts for an under 18 audience.

So if you visit Oslo, we'll be sure to keep you hot!
