Medimex 2012

The second Medimex Mediterranean Music Fair promoted by Puglia Sounds and held in Bari from 29th November to 2nd December has now ended., and we would like to thank the 1400 exhibitors, operators and artists from 20 countries who took part in  Medimex, contributing to a 15% increase in the number of operators present.  Thanks also go to the 10,000 spectators who came to the trade fair and crowded into the evening showcases held this year in the fair.

This second Medimex, Italy’s only music trade fair, has been truly international, hosting1400 operators and artists from 20 countries for three intense days of artistic and commercial exchanges, live music and events dedicated to music professionals and the general public.   Like last year’s Medimex, this year’s fair opened with the Meraviglioso Modugno show on  November 29th at Bari’s Petruzzelli Theatre, a tribute to Domenico Modugno by some of Italy’s big names in music.   From November 30th, 8,000 sq m of exhibition area and 131 stands in Bari’s Fiera del Levante hosted music professionals from 20 countries and over 10,000 spectators involved in a rich programme of activities.  

Medimex had over 60 events, including afternoon and evening showcases, seminars, face to face(s), workshops, meet the authors, keynotes and the author’s workshop with big names in Italian music, music businesses and representatives from cultural institutions and Italian and international  festivals.

3 stages in the Fiera del Levante’s exhibition halls full of  the public and music operators hosted 23 showcases by artists from 13 countries for a total of over 900 minutes of all kinds of live music.

6 halls hosted seminars, presentations, Meet the Artists, Artist’s Workshops and Keynotes involving 155 speakers - journalists, musicians, producers, technicians, recording company representatives – to talk about music and new technology, live entertainment and public funding, new festivals and recording projects. 

  There were over 1500 requests for Face to Face(s), one of the new features of this second edition of Puglia’s music trade fair,  the first time in Italy that artists and music workers have had the opportunity to take part in B2B activities and to develop professional contacts with the representatives of institutions and festivals from 13 countries. 

During the second Medimex there were four music awards: Medimex Best Italian Artist 2012 to Negramaro, Medimex Best International Artist 2012 to Asaf Avidan and the MEI PIVI – Italian Independent Videoclip and PIMI –Italian Independent Music Awards.

Over 200 accredited press organisations and the vital contribution of our media partners: Rai Radio Tre broadcast 7 live programmes from the trade fair and hosted its participants; La Repubblica’s xL did live blogging for all the events on the programme and organised the xL Special Night; and did 25 reports and interviewed the stars of the second Fair of  Mediterranean Music.

Medimex was promoted by Apulia Regional Government’s Office of Mediterranean Affairs, Culture and Tourism as part of the ERDF (European Regional Development Fund) Operational Programme  Axis IV carried out by Puglia Sounds/Teatro Pubblico Pugliese with support from the Economic Development Office’s Department of Economic Development Policies, Work and Innovation, and Apulia Regional Government’s Internationalisation Service with technical suport from Sprint Puglia, the Regional Office for Business Internationalisation.
