International jazz in Tallinn: Jazzkaar Festival 2015

The 26th Jazzkaar festival is taking place between the 17th and 26th April 2015, brining some of the most innovative and world-class jazz in Tallinn, Estonia. Jazzkaar, a member of the Europe Jazz Network (EJN), features 10 days of great concerts on the Tallinn harbour, together with jazz awards and a urban project on the streets of the city.

The 2015 edition will see the participation of great international artists such as the Ibrahim Maalouf quartet (Lebanon-France), Elina Duni (Albania-Switzerland), David Sanborn (USA), Gregory Porter (USA), the Oleg Pissarenko band (Estonia) and many others.

Tallinn International Festival Jazzkaar is the biggest Jazz Festival in the Baltics, started in 1990. In 2014 the Festival celebrated its 25th birthday. Combining interesting and unique program with bold solutions Jazzkaar’s team is able to create one of the best festivals with the smallest budget in the Nordic countries, bringing some of the biggest and most interesting findings of the world’s jazz scene to Tallinn and Estonia. The ten-day Festival has also the biggest number of concerts per year in Estonia with more than 3000 performers from 60 countries.

In addition to the big festival MTÜ Jazzkaare Sõprade Ühing also organises Christmas Jazz, Winter Jazz and Autumn Jazz. Christmas Jazz is a two-week intimate and more serene-sounding festival during the Holidays. Winter Jazz and Autumn Jazz are concert seasons that present local artists, their new projects and intriguing musicians and bands from Europe.

The biggest artists who have visited Jazzkaar are Bobby McFerrin (2011), Angie Stone (2009), Chick Corea (2012, 1994), Dianne Reeves (2010), Jan Garbarek (2012, 2003, 1997), Richard Bona (2011, 2003, 2002), John Scofield (2004), Charles Lloyd (2013, 2005, 1997, 1967), and many others.
