InJazz 2023: conference for jazz professionals plus free live music from 21-23 June

Showcase festival and conference inJazz announces its sixteenth edition for 21 - 23 June 2023. Kicking off on Wednesday evening 21 June at the Bimhuis in Amsterdam, the following two days in Rotterdam will be the focus of jazz professionals from home and abroad, for meetings, a look at new developments in jazz and adjacent genres and splashing, free-to-attend concert nights.

InJazz returns to Amsterdam and Rotterdam in 2023. Four free performances at Bimhuis on 21 June, and at least sixteen performances on Thursday 22 June at LantarenVenster, the adjacent club MOOD and the studio of the NAVB (Dutch academy for image creation), all in Rotterdam's Kop van Zuid quarter. A freely accessible and adventurous festival where jazz is the basis but where young talents and established names show that genre boundaries are increasingly blurred. The performing artists are selected from almost 200 applications by a committee consisting of Tim Sprangers (programmer De Ruimte, Willem Twee Toonzaal), Loubna el Boujoufi (programmer TivoliVredenburg), Martyna van Nieuwland (artistic director Music Meeting) and Koen Nederstigt (assistant programmer North Sea Jazz Festival).

On both Thursday and Friday nights, the programming of fringe festival North Sea Round Town links up directly with the inJazz programme, guaranteeing unique musical experiences for fans until the late hours.

Composers, musicians, representatives of labels, media, venues and festivals from home and abroad will meet during inJazz to discuss the latest developments in the sector, make new contacts and learn about the repertoire of emerging bands and new projects by well-known musicians who will conquer the stages in the coming seasons. Artist hub Batavierhuis will host a conference afternoon on Thursday, focusing on artists and their immediate working environment, career planning and professional networking. On Friday 23 June, a conference afternoon in LantarenVenster will address issues such as jazz & public broadcasting and Dutch heritage regarding jazz and world music. The afternoon will also include the annual announcement of the winner of the Boy Edgar Award, in cooperation with the Performing Arts Fund.

Expect showcases from NOHMI, Sanem Kalfa Miraculous Layers, Raquel Kurpershoek, Önder, Meral Polat Trio, Loek van den Berg Quintet, Matthias Van Den Brande Trio, Felix Schlarmann’s Tree House, Peter Willems Trio, and many more.
