EJN's Nordic dimension marches young bands on big stages

The jazz federations in Finland, Sweden, Denmark, Norway and Iceland have worked together for over 15 years to provide platforms for young and talented jazz musicians.

Young Nordic Jazz Comets has been their flagship project to present bands from each of the Nordic countries since year 2000. The past few years have been pivotal for the YNJC. The earlier competition form evolved into a showcase structure in 2012 and soon after the showcase took place on the side of the Europe Jazz Network General Assembly, first in Trondheim in 2013 and later in Helsinki, 2014.

This year the five Nordic rising stars will be standing on their own feet, proudly presented on one of the most intriguing contemporary jazz stages in Europe: Tampere Jazz Happening. The festival was first introduced in 1982 and for the past 34 years it has been one of the Nordic hotspots for uncompromising artistic views and broad-minded take on jazz beyond genre definitions. The YNJC showcase takes place on Thursday night at Klubi, which is one of the main venues at the festival.
