Doek

Despite the continuing restrictions Doek is full of energy and ideas for creating fresh art. We have several projects involving live performance in the Netherlands that will continue as soon as it is safe to do so. In the meantime we have devised a few methods of creating new work while in lockdown:

DOEK COMPOSES
Doek Composes is a series we started in direct response to the limitations resulting from the coronavirus pandemic. Each member of Doek composes a new piece to be recorded solo by each member of the collective. Last year we published three albums, featuring compositions by Eric Boeren, Kaja Draksler and John Dikeman. In January we released our first guest compilation, with musicians from across the globe interpreting these three compositions. Michael Moore’s composition Emptier was next up, followed by Pulse by Marta Warelis. More compositions will follow on a monthly basis, all released on Doek RAW and featuring original artwork by Lena Czerniawska.

Doek Composes - Guest compilation vol 1
Performances by Michael Foster, Ibelisse Guardia Ferragutti, Gianluca Elia, Alexander Hawkins, Marta Arpini, Jodi Gilbert, Frans Petter Eldh, Ava Mendoza, Jaap Blonk, Greg Ward, John Hughes, Jeb Bishop, Martin Küchen.

MUSICIANS TALK
In several round table discussions, Doek’s Eric Boeren spoke with musicians he has played with over the years. Each episode focused on an instrument group and allowed the artists to delve into their differing philosophies of performance and improvisation. You can watch the interviews with pianists, guitarists, trumpet players, bassists and drummers on our YouTube channel.
