Jazz and Solidarity with Ukrainian Musicians
Like Citizen Jazz, the jazz magazine Meloport is a member of the Europe Jazz Media Group.
It has been unable to publish since the Russian invasion in February 2022.
Therefore, Citizen Jazz opens its doors for an exceptional issue that tells the story of life in Ukraine and the power of music.
Publication on December 15 at 5 pm.

To celebrate this event, a special evening will be organized in Paris.
The three-part jazz evening - an exhibition, a presentation of the Ukrainian jazz magazine MELOPORT and a concert - invites jazz fans to share moments of friendship, passion for music and solidarity with Ukrainian musicians. The highlight of the Jazzycolors Festival of the Forum des instituts culturels étrangers, this event will take place on Friday, December 15, 2023 at the Centre tchèque in Paris.
PROGRAM : Friday, December 15, 2023 / 19:00 - 21:00
Centre Tchèque de Paris
18 rue Bonaparte
75006 Paris
19:00 - Presentation of the Ukrainian jazz magazine Meloport, invited by the French magazine Citizen Jazz
In the presence of Kateryna Ziabliuk, editor-in-chief of Meloport, Oleksii Karpovitch, co-editor-in-chief of Meloport and Matthieu Jouan, editor-in-chief of Citizen Jazz.
How do you publish a magazine that talks about jazz when missiles are raining down and military action is needed to defend the country? How do you publish a magazine when the editorial staff has been decimated, when the premises are no longer operational?
19:30 - Jazz concert with a special trio: Sakina Abdou (saxophone) | Kateryna Ziabliuk (piano) | Patrycja Wybrańczyk (drums).
Promoted by the Ukrainian Institute in France and invited by Citizen Jazz, Kateryna Ziabliuk, jazz pianist and editor-in-chief of Meloport, drummer Patrycja Wybrańczyk (Poland) and saxophonist Sakina Abdou (France) will perform at the Centre tchèque in Paris to close the FICEP Jazzycolors Festival.
From 13:00 - Exhibition : Ukrainian jazz musicians during the war
In 2014, many Ukrainian musicians joined the army to defend their country against the aggressor. In 2022 they will be even more numerous. After the war, they put down their instruments to play in a democratic and independent Ukraine, to create new music and to engage in an active dialog with representatives of other cultures.
This photographic project, proposed by the Ukrainian Institute, aims to tell the story of jazz musicians who joined the Ukrainian Armed Forces and territorial defense.
The partners of this special edition and of the evening are :
Ukrainian Institute, FICEP - Jazzycolors, AJC, Centre Tchèque de Paris, Europe Jazz Network, Donos Kulturalny.
