Celebrating great labels!

Here at Nasjonal jazzscene in Oslo, we are still smiling and feeling fantastic after our four-day celebration of the mighty ECM records, showcasing nine concerts with both newcomers, veterans and those in between. Mette Henriette and Carla Bley Trio on the same date for example, turned out to be a stroke of genius, a history span of 50 years within three hours, and truly showed the strength in both the past and the future.

We´re now looking forward to celebrate another quality laden and strongly identifiable record label, HUBRO Music, who turn 10 this year. HUBRO is a label dedicated to release music from the vital Norwegian jazz- and improvised music scene and have fantastic artists on their roster. They cherish the album as a physical object and all their album art is made by the famous designer collective Yokoland.

On November 22, both sides of HUBRO´s spectrum can be heard at Nasjonal jazzscene. Actually the first act, bass player Mats Eilertsen bridges the two labels, outputting albums on both. But it´s on HUBRO that he finds the space to investigate, experiment and output unique sounding music, more at home here.

Next out is a teasing nod to the Norwegian school band movement, the drummer from bands like 1982 and Bly de Blyant Øyvind Skarbø's new main venture - Skarbø Skulekorps. Here, all traces of Sousa marches and cringe worthy woodwinds are exchanged with the best musicians in Scandinavia, giving us catchy and unpredictable music, referencing so many genres that it makes no sense to try to categorize. Afro beat with techno bass? Contemporary music for steel guitar and banjo? 60s jazz with 80s synth? Join us in celebrating 10 years of forward-looking, new music in Oslo, an exciting night no doubt!

There will also be HUBRO label nights in Europe, bringing top bands like Bushman´s Revenge, Erlend Apneseth Trio and Building Instrument to Rotterdam (Lantaren Venster), London (Spice of Life), Paris (La Dynamo) and Berlin (Auster Club). Find your nearest gig here or join us here in Oslo on November 22!

Other concerts on our program we are looking forward to, are Murray / Håker Flaten / Nilssen-Love, Airelle Besson, The Bad Plus, Elephant9, María Grand Trio, Azkadenya (Sidsel Endresen), Charles Lloyd Kindred Spirits, Kurt Elling, Atomic & Trondheim Jazzorkester, Dale & Roligheten, Miles Okazaki and many, many others!
