In collaboration with Le Guess Who, Bozar invited Okkyung Lee to create a new peace for an ensemble of Korean traditional musicians alongside Okkyung on cello.

Gyeol explores the meeting point between gugak (traditional Korean music), contemporary composition and experimental improvisation. Drawing on the distinct timbres and performance practices of Korean traditional instruments, the work creates an immersive, highly textured sound world that moves between composed material and collective interaction.  The musicians involved are among the most distinctive voices working across contemporary and traditional Korean music today, bringing backgrounds that span experimental composition, improvisation, pansori, contemporary gugak.

The project will premier this Autumn, confirmed at Le Guess Who? on 7 November and Bozar on 10 November.
