B:Music Free Jazz Friday: New Season Launch!

B:Music have recently launched the Spring/Summer 2024 performances of their flagship series Free Jazz Fridays, which kickstarted with a spell-binding performance by Elysia Biro as part of a celebration of International Women’s Day. Upcoming performances include two talent development takeovers from B:Music’s B:and Together ensembles, and Tomorrow’s Warriors Youth band as part of Music for Youth Festival. This contributes to B:Music’s objective of supporting the next generation of talent from around the corner, alongside welcoming major international stars to our venue – with Pat Metheny coming to Symphony Hall in November 2024 as part of his Dream Box/MoonDial Tour.

A word from our Talent Development & Education Manager, Toni Grehan, on the B:and Together FJF showcase - 'B:Music is delighted to announce the hosting of a fresh new development showcase, dedicated to celebrating our young and gifted musicians involved in our funded projects. This event promises to be a fantastic evening, showcasing the remarkable progress made by these young individuals on their musical journey. Featuring performances by our B:and Together Saturday Jazz and Gospel bands, alongside our school outreach ensembles presenting an eclectic mix of Indian fusion, funk, jazz and soul music. Additionally, our emerging DJs from our Step Up project will captivate the audience during the intermission, followed by stellar compositions and productions from participants of our B:Aspirational and B:Next programs. This will be an evening filled with magic and musical brilliance!'

We'd like to thank our generous funders PPL for their continuous support of our Free Jazz Friday events. To celebrate their 90th birthday PPL have launched ‘PPL Giving’, an annual £1 million purpose-driven strategy to give back to music. The first grants have been made to organisations that are driving positive change across the music industry, such as through musical education, talent development, later career support and artist welfare. B:Music are incredibly proud and grateful to be amongst the first 26 recipients of this funding to support the continuation of our Free Jazz Friday initiative. Founded in 1934, PPL is the UK music industry’s collective management organisation (CMO) for performers and recording rightsholders.
