Electronics and hip hop, nu-jazz and free jazz, fragments of traditional music and free improvisation ... all this and much more will flow into the unique sound vision of the performers at the 31st edition of the Jazz Cerkno festival. All musicians will present completely fresh, previously unheard projects in Slovenia. 

This year the festival will feature many guitarists, including the famous British master of improvisation, avant-garde and new classical music Fred Frith. Together with Slovenian percussionist and sound researcher Jaka Berger they will present the Auditory Continuum project. Among the guitarists, Mary Halvorson, who has won multiple awards in the Downbeat journalists’ polls, will take the stage and present her Canis Major quartet. The colors of Scandinavian jazz will be represented by renowned musicians from Norway and Sweden. Double bassist Ingebrigt Håker Flaten will perform with his international sextet (Exit) Knarr, while reed player Mats Gustafsson and trumpeter Goran Kajfeš will present the new band Cosmic Ear, which focuses on music at the intersection of traditional bands and spiritual jazz. 

The Austrian Synesthetic4 combines nu-jazz with electronics and hip hop, and Argentine saxophonist Camila Nebbia explores polyphony through various techniques with the international trio Hypomaniac. The Um/Welt project by Italian double bassist Marco Centasso blends jazz with electronic interventions and elements of Arabic music. Slovenian most prominent jazz pianist Kaja Draksler will, through use of microtonality, in a solo performance reinterpret historical styles such as ragtime and stride. 

Guitarist Gašper Piano will connect Slovenian and Portuguese improvisers in the Adder Klank quartet. This year's sonically and stylistically colorful festival opens with German guitarist Monika Roscher, who will conduct the Big Band Krško. For her premiere performance with Slovenian big band, Roscher prepared an eclectic mix of jazz and other genres – from pop and rock to experimental. Tickets for the festival are already on sale.
