24th International Ankara Jazz Festival will be World’s First Online Music Festival

Due to the health issues the Board of the Jazz Society has decided to make the International Ankara Jazz Festival as an ONLINE FESTIVAL. The preparations that were almost completed for the festival were reshaped due to developments. The festival will take place between 30th of April -10th of May 2020.

Chair of Jazz Society and Festival Curator Özlem Oktar Varoğlu summarizes the theme as #DemocracyinJazz.

“We think that jazz is a democratic form of art. Jazz musicians contribute to the music on the stage, and they listen to each other, open a space for each other and ensure that they can make their voices heard equally. Isn't that democracy? Art is the reflection of the society. In this respect, we chose “Democracy in Jazz” as our theme.

The Jazz Society of Turkey determines the theme one year in advance and announces it on its website every year. The events that will take place in the festival are selected among the projects that are suitable for the theme.

Festival Director Tuğçe Alpaslan says: “This year, festival projects were selected, but because of the developments, we experienced due to the COVID-19 virus, we need a little more time to explain the program. Our program will be published as soon as possible on our ankaracazfestivali.com and cazdernegi.org websites”.

As scheduled, the festival will opening with a concert on World Jazz Day at April 30th, 2020. The opening event will be done in cooperation with the Jazz Society of Turkey, UNESCO and Herbie Hancock Jazz Institute. The details about the concerts will be announced in our next press release.
