Common Ground

Description:

Common Ground celebrates the magic of live music, jazz, world and classical music in particular. We’re doing this by bringing people together under unusual circumstances in surprising locations with music that touches. Passionate world-class musicians from The Netherlands and abroad play close to the audience against the backdrop of historical or characteristic locations. Our contemporary approach and presentation has attracted new audiences since the first edition in autumn 2021, making experiencing music the common denominator in a diverse group of people from different backgrounds and ages. Thus, music brings us closer together at a time when, unfortunately, this is less obvious. Common Ground has a carefully compiled (international) program with the best (semi) acoustic jazz, world and classical music. Our musicians are open minded to other genres and traditions and are, just like ourselves, eager to find new audiences for their music.

The annual Common Ground Festival reaches its climax during the route festival through the historic city center of the Hanseatic city of Zwolle. The audience buys a ticket for one of ten routes. Within that route, you attend four concerts featuring at least jazz, world, and classical music. It's a surprise who performs in which route. The setup and atmosphere allow us to introduce a diverse audience to pure jazz as well as music from different cultures, classical music and all kinds of crossovers.

Throughout the year, we also organize individual concerts for both children and adults under the name Common Ground in Concert. We work with a small and ambitious team of passionate music experts and enthusiasts. Together we contribute to strengthening the strategically located regional performance infrastructure between the Randstad in the west of the Netherlands and Germany in the east. Our organization is a member of the Association of Dutch Jazz Venues and Festivals (VNJJ), a network that brings together programmers and directors of both large and small jazz stages and festivals in The Netherlands.
