Manchester Jazz Festival (mjf) is Greater Manchester’s longest-running festival and a leading provider of jazz talent development in the North of England.

Renowned for dissolving genre stereotypes and a commitment to new music and indigenous talent, mjf is a distinctive and cherished part of Manchester's cultural landscape. mjf looks within and beyond the city limits in search of distinctive, diverse, and original music that provides outstanding audience experiences for people and communities across Greater Manchester and further afield.

mjf:
  • produces an annual 10-day festival in late May, using 10 indoor and outdoor city centre venues, featuring c.75 events and 400 performers
  • runs three artist development and commissioning programmes throughout the year, and collaborates with other EJN members on international activity
  • champions northern UK-based artists presenting original contemporary jazz repertoire
  • presents distinctive collaborations and a selection of UK and international artists
  • was founded in 1996 by local musicians and jazz enthusiasts
  • is run by a team of 7 part-time members of staff
  • has an average total concert attendance of 20,000
  • is an independent, non-profit making Limited Company with charitable status
  • is funded through Arts Council England’s National Portfolio, Manchester City Council, Greater Manchester Combined Authority and PRS Foundation
  • won the prestigious EJN Award for Adventurous Programming in 2016
