LUAH - Vocal Trio
LUAH: Winners of the German Jazz Award present their diverse sound at Draiflessen in Mettingen (Germany)
Sunny vocal arrangements, folk-inspired arrangements, and jazzy harmonies – the vocal trio LUAH combines lightness with depth. Authentic melodies, Afro-Brazilian rhythms, and lyrics ranging from the joyful Celebração to the wistful Saudade characterize the unmistakable sound of the band led by singer and songwriter Elsa Johanna Mohr. In October, they will present their compositions at meetMUSIC in Draiflessen/Mettingen.
Mohr (vocals, ukulele, percussion, composition) founded the trio in 2017 together with Lena-Larissa Senge (vocals, synthesizer, percussion) and Ula Martyn-Ellis (electric guitar, vocals). The musicians met at the Institute of Music at Osnabrück University of Applied Sciences, where they studied jazz singing and jazz guitar. Today, they are known for music that oscillates between folk, Brazilian tropicalismo, and jazz, repeatedly setting surprising rock accents and touching listeners with subtle polyphony.
With their second album, MO VI MENTO, LUAH won the German Jazz Award in the category “Vocal Album of the Year” in 2023. Their third album was released by GLM Music in April 2025.
