JAZZ NORTH HOSTS FREE ONLINE DISCUSSIONS FOR JAZZ MUSICIANS AND PROMOTERS

Jazz North is hosting two free online ‘open space’ events, one for musicians and one for promoters.

‘What’s Next? A Discussion for Jazz Artists’ will take place on Wednesday 16th September 12.30pm – 3.30pm on Zoom with guest speakers Camilla George and Kim Macari, and event partners Lancaster Jazz Festival. Aimed at musicians writing, performing, and working in the jazz sector, this event is an opportunity for artists to come together and talk to other artists.

“Jazz North and Lancaster Jazz Festival would like to better understand the needs of artists, and we hope this will be the start of an open conversation around shaping the future of our activity, and the wider sector,” says Jazz North Programme Manager Lucy Woolley. “This is a unique event for artists to come together to explore and tackle the challenges facing musicians in this sector. Strictly artists only, this is a safe space to share experiences and shape the sector for the future.”

“‘Open space’ style events allow participants to set the agenda, to bring ideas, questions, challenges, solutions, and an open mind to where the discussion might lead.”

The following week, on Wednesday 23rd September 12.30pm – 3.30pm on Zoom, Jazz North is hosting ‘Adapting to the New Normal - A Discussion for Promoters in the Jazz Sector’. Another ‘open space’ event, the guest speakers are Harkirit Boparai from Music Venue Trust and The Crescent in York, and Attitude Is Everything’s Natalie South.

“It has been a challenging six months in the promoting landscape, from venues closing to changing guidelines and uncertainty around a return to regular live performance,” explains Lucy. “This event is an opportunity for promoters to come together and discuss what is next for them, and how the sector can overcome the challenges and begin to see a return to live performance in an uncertain world.”
