Jazz North Northern Line showcase and artist development day at Lancaster jazz festival

Jazz North and Lancaster Jazz Festival have joined forces to present two events for jazz promoters and artists as part of the festival in September 2019.
Jazz North’s northern line showcase will see the scheme’s latest artists taking to the stage at Lancaster Jazz Festival on Friday 13th September 12.30pm – 8.15pm. Nishla Smith Quintet, Not Now Charlie, Rafe’s Dilemma, SogoRock, freesetrio, John Pope Quintet and Beyond Albedo will perform separate 45-minute sets in Sun Square in front of national and international jazz promoters.
The day before the showcase, Jazz North will be teaming up with Lancaster Jazz Festival for an Artist Development Day on Thursday 12th September. The day will be open to all and will offer knowledge from major industry bodies, workshops with funders, promoter panels and established artists on hand to offer tailored advice. There will also be the opportunity to meet and share experiences with like-minded musicians.
This is the first year Lancaster Jazz Festival will host Jazz North’s northern line showcase, following its move from Manchester Jazz Festival. Jamil Sheriff from Jazz North’s northern line band Rafe’s Dilemma says he is looking forward to playing in the new location: “I’m very excited to be playing at Lancaster Jazz Festival this September with Rafe’s Dilemma – a great choice of location by Jazz North. The Festival is steadily growing into one of the UK’s most exciting festivals and I think our music will fit right in.” https://www.lancasterjazz.com/festival-2019.html
Since 2013, Jazz North’s northern line has supported 67 jazz artists and ensembles from across the north with over 700 gigs. The scheme is Jazz North’s flagship programme that supports artists through subsidised touring, mentoring and industry support. Hand-picked by an independent panel of jazz musicians and promoters, the artists on the scheme are from the best in the north, highlighting the quality and variety of jazz composed and performed in the area.
