KLÁRA PUDLÁKOVÁ (Czech Republic)

Double bassist Klára Pudláková comes from a musical family, after a brief study at the Jaroslav Ježek College of Music, she is currently studying at the Music and Dance Faculty of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague (HAMU) and is beginning to establish herself across genres. In addition to the alternative-folk Avokadua project, we could hear her in the Uthando project, in the jazz band 2in2out; she is also active in the “purely improvisational” scene.
 
Klára Pudláková founded the string ensemble MAOMAH (Music Army Of Mystery And Hope) as part of her master’s project at the Prague HAMU. Her aim is to develop classical music through improvisation and rhythmic freedom taken from jazz. Klára Pudláková’s original compositions have a given theme, and the players, experienced in the discipline of improvisation, develop it differently each time based on the set rules. This creates music that is reminiscent of romantic or contemporary classical music in terms of its instrumental composition, but in which “something” is fundamentally different. This something is the “musical mystery” that this musical army is fighting for. All expression, dynamics and tectonics of the whole are not governed by notes, but by the mutual reaction of the musicians here and now. The playing line-up, which represents both classical virtuosity and jazz training as well as years of experience with improvisation, is able to stay within the bounds of a given harmony and rhythm, but at the same time completely unceremoniously cross the bounds.
 
PROJECT Platoon of Love
 
MAOMAH is a musical army fighting for mystery and hope. It is difficult to say what exactly to imagine under the "musical mystery". Perhaps in its eternal misunderstanding there remains the hope that music will always be with us and for us. MAOMAH seeks it by all available means. It is not afraid to wring out emotions in the most direct way, nor to freely rage and experiment. However, he perceives the main path to mystery in the freedom that improvisation represents in music.
MAOMAH currently consists of the first platoon, which is why the debut album is called Platoon of Love. However, like a proper army, it will grow in the future with successful battles. The army is led by the Klára Pudláková’s double bass, and the first platoon is made up of three violinists providing different musical combat techniques.
