PETER HERBERT (Austria)
A classically trained pianist/double bass player, after years of successful activities in mainstream jazz, he is now developing his own voice in the field of improvised music. He is also a versatile composer with works for various orchestras and chamber ensembles.
Peter Herbert has been living and working in Paris and Vienna since 2003, after after having lived in New York for 16 years. He has collaborated with musicians such as the Marc Copland/John Abercrombie Quartet, Bobby Previte, John Clark, Robin Eubanks and Marcel Khalife. His work has been documented on over 180 CD recordings (including with Paul Simon).
Hebert is also a prolific and versatile composer, mostly commissioned by European orchestras and ensembles. He has also written for chamber groups, designed experimental film soundtracks and incidental music for European avant-garde theatre groups. His work is well documented on over 170 recordings.
PROJECT Peter Herbert ‘naked bass II’ (bass solo)
After a series of solo concerts at venues ranging from the old Knitting Factory in New York (1993) to the Saalfelden Jazz Festival in Austria, Moscow (Dom), Ramallah (Conservatory) Peter Herbert has established a program in which he uses devices such as wooden clips etc. He limits himself to the pure acoustic sound of the instrument and refuses to use any sound-altering electronics. His new solo CD “Naked Bass II” was released by UNIT records on May 15, 2024.
