ROBERT RAGAN jr. Trio (Slovakia)
Róbert Ragan Jr. is a Slovak double bassist and electric bass player. He represents the musical generation born in the 1990s.
Róbert Ragan Jr. grew up surrounded by music since childhood. At the age of six, he began learning the violin at an art school under the guidance of his father, a well-known Slovak double bass player. While studying at a high school in Banská Bystrica, Róbert became fascinated by the electric bass guitar after discovering the music of Jaco Pastorius. This was a pivotal moment in his life.
Robert later changed schools and focused on studying classical double bass in his father’s class at the Conservatory in Banská Bystrica. While studying classical music, Robert attended private jazz lessons under the guidance of Klaudis Kováč – a great Slovak jazz pianist and music teacher. During this time, Robert also participated in a number of music competitions with his peers, where he won both solo and group prizes.
Immediately after his studies, Robert began collaborating with many professional Slovak musicians and music projects, such as: Martin Uherek, Lukáš Oravec, Radovan Tariška, Ondrej Krajňák, Klaudis Kováč, Robo Opatovský, Matúš Jakabčic SK/CZ big band and many others.
Project: Turns
The debut album “Turns” was created in collaboration with two of the best Slovak jazz musicians – Klaudík Kováč on piano and Peter Solárik on drums. Czech saxophonist Ondřej Štveráček also guest-stars on two tracks. The album consists of original Ragan compositions. It reflects a lively collection of various musical moods, interpreted in a modern jazz language.
