Emerging local acts meet international heavyweights in Berlin’s most famous jazz festival, which this year will also include a new festival common area, surprise jam sessions, panel discussions, and more.
After winning the German Jazz Prize for "Festival of the Year" in 2022, XJAZZ! FESTIVAL returns with its most ground-breaking line-up to date.
For one week 8. – 14. MAY Berlin’s Kreuzberg neighborhood is taken by storm with church, nightclubs, and venue spaces big and small, all becoming stages for the avant-garde, captivating a diverse, urban audience.
This year the festival starts legendary – with the farewell tour of the legendary Roy Ayers. Apart from offering a chance to hear the scene‘s key players as Gyedu Blay Ambolley, Kahil El Zabar, Alfa Mist, Kokoroko, Bombino, XJAZZ! FESTIVAL's strong mission is to highlight the Berlin scene and give the local gems an opportunity to bring their art to the big stage.
XJAZZ! FESTIVAL 2023 will also spotlight the artists increasingly cut-off from the world due to crises back home. With its special “ARTISTS! IN EXILE” program, XJAZZ! in collaboration with Goethe Institut in Exile will provide concerts of artists from Ukraine, Syria, Turkey, etc., panel discussions, workshops and networking opportunities. “The aim is to create spaces and networks that can provide concrete solutions to the problem of artists in exile. We want not only to support now but to create a strong community with long-term relations.” says the XJAZZ! team.
