Vote for your Riga Jazz Stage 2022 sympathy!

Voting for the participants of the international jazz artists' competition Riga Jazz Stage 2022 has started. The potential recipient of the Tele2 spectator sympathy award can already be voted on the event's website rigajazz.lv.

You can vote for the sympathy of the audience in both categories of the competition – jazz vocalist and jazz drummer. One voice per day is accepted from one IP address in each category. The winner will be announced on the closing day of Riga Jazz Stage on April 9 and will receive the latest generation smartphone.

“The Audience Award is an important recognition for every participant in every competition,” emphasizes Māris Briežkalns, the artistic director of Riga Jazz Stage. “The winners of the main prizes are determined by an international jury, but the audience's sympathy award means that the artist has managed to touch a simple listener with his performance, who evaluates mainly based on his music lover's emotions, and this is not insignificant.”

“Jazz is a conversation between hearts, so communication and sympathy between artists and viewers is an essential part of jazz,” says Ilze Žukova, Tele2 brand manager. “We are pleased to be able to help create a platform for young and promising artists so that they can apply and prove themselves to both Latvian and foreign listeners.”

Riga Jazz Stage will take place for the 13th time and will bring together vocalists and drummers from different countries. A prominent international jury will also arrive in Riga, making Riga Jazz Stage a jazz event marked on the world map of this genre. The special guest will be the Grammy Award nominee, Thelonious Monk winner, composer, singer and drummer Jamison Ross from the United States, who will perform at the concert on April 9th.

A competition concert with 25 young talents will take place on April 7. A total of 13 national jazz schools from Estonia, Lithuania, Ukraine, Poland, Slovakia, Denmark, Germany, Belgium, Italy, the United Kingdom, Turkey and the United States, as well as Latvia, will be represented at Riga Jazz Stage. The final of the competition will take place on April 8, where the top 12 candidates selected by the jury will perform to the public, and Jamison Ross will perform with his trio on April 9.

Ross' colleagues on the jury will be Toivo Unt (Estonia), Artistic Director of Jazz Time Festival, Jonas Jučas (Lithuania), Artistic Director of Kaunas Jazz Festival, Giuseppe Mormile (Italy), Artistic Director of Venezia Jazz Festival, Paul Pace (United Kingdom), Music Bookings Coordinator at Ronnie Scott's Jazz Club in London, Önder Focan (Turkey), Artistic Director of Nardis Jazz Club in Istanbul, Catherine Mayer (Germany), Director of Agency Just Jazz International, Georgina Javor (USA), Vice President of Concerts & Touring at Jazz at Lincoln Center, Māris Briežkalns, Artistic Director of Riga Jazz Stage, and Latvian Maestro Raimonds Pauls. Jazz journalists from different countries will also arrive in Riga.

The contestants will be accompanied by the Riga Jazz Quartet, featuring pianist Kristaps Vanadziņš, guitarist Rihards Goba, bassist Jānis Rubiks and drummer Miķelis Vīte. The competition's prize fund includes money and other prizes, as well as invitations to perform at jazz festivals and music clubs in various countries around the world.

Riga Jazz Stage ticket sales will start on March 1 and will be available for purchase at aula.lv. Both live and online tickets will be available.

The event is organized by the Foundation Contemporary Music Center, supported by Riga City Council, State Culture Capital Foundation, Tele 2, A&T Trade and others.
