The big new thing about jazz and improvised music in Nantes is that there is now a professional training between Nantes and Chicago called Improvised musics and dynamics of collective creation in Chicago.

In Chicago, initiatives such as the AACM (Association for the Advancement of Creative Musicians) and the creation of independent labels and structures have long provided fertile ground for improvised music. These collective practices have become a real source of emancipation for musicians. The “Improvised Music and the Dynamics of Collective Creation” training program offers meetings and work sessions with committed local artists who advocate an open and lively approach to improvisation, a space of freedom where everyone can reinvent themselves and tell shared stories.

 Goals
● To understand the social context of improvised music in Chicago
● To understand and to develop improvisation tools
● To know the story of this kind of musics in Chicago
● To acquire techniques for playing in different styles
● To develop your own musical language

The “Improvised music and the dynamics of collective creation” course is organized by Trempo and run in partnership with The Bridge, a transatlantic network for jazz and creative music, and Pannonica, the Nantes Jazz scene.
