Pursuance: The Coltranes
Although her collaborations with Stevie Wonder, Alicia Keys, The Roots and Macy Gray have been nothing but spectacular, the charismatic saxophonist and bandleader Lakecia Benjamin has been standing on her own two feet for years now, stunning countless crowds with her electric stage presence and feel for spiritual jazz.
On March 27 2020, Lakecia released the highly anticipated Pursuance: The Coltranes, a CD devoted to covers of both John and Alice Coltrane, the latter of whom has been standing in the shadows for too long. Lakecia demonstrates not only her admiration for the Coltranes on the album, but also manages to incorporate an original and contemporary interpretation of the classic and timeless jazz composition she covers.
