The non-profit foundation Nasjonal Jazzscene promotes the very best of Norwegian and international jazz and related music genres – primarily with concerts at our venue Victoria on Karl Johans gate in Oslo, as well as other activities. Nasjonal Jazzscene is a vital platform for Norwegian musicians, orchestras, promoters and audiences, and an active member of the European jazz community, participating in various programmes for touring artists, talent development and other projects. One of our main ambitions is to be a jazz club on a par with the best in Europe. In 2021 Nasjonal Jazzscene received the Europe Jazz Network’s award for excellence in programming.
Nasjonal Jazzscene has offices in central Oslo and a full-time staff of four. The venue has seven part-time employees, 45 volunteers and a pool of freelance technicians. The bar is run by the foundation and employs a bar manager and three part-time bartenders. Nasjonal Jazzscene is governed by a board of directors appointed by Norsk Jazzforum.
The position of Managing Director is available from March 2023. The Managing Director is responsible for leading the foundation's artistic and administrative work and is appointed for a tenure of six years. The tenure may be extended once, following a public announcement.
Key responsibilities and tasks
- Head up long-term strategy and development
- Overall responsibility for artistic programming and implementation
- Overall responsibility for the foundation’s finance, human resources, infrastructure and administration
- Represent the foundation in dealings with business partners and political institutions
- Playing an active role in relevant professional networks in Norway and internationally
- Acting as the foundation’s spokesperson and public face
- Being secretary of the board of directors
Requirements
- Extensive knowledge of Norwegian and international jazz and related genres
- Relevant higher education qualifications
- Leadership experience, including previous involvement with strategy and development work
- Wide experience in promoting and programming music
- Knowledge of cultural policy and public administration
- Experience with handling press and media
- Full professional proficiency in Norwegian and English
Personal skills
- Passion for jazz and music culture
- Responsible, enterprising, resourceful and results-oriented
- Independent and collaborative
- Strong communication skills
