Jazz South announces a feast of new music for audiences to enjoy this November

Jazz South launches a new 6-part podcast series and 5 filmed gigs this November, presented by broadcaster and journalist Kevin Le Gendre (J-Z/Jazzwise/MusicWeek).
 
Shining a light on outstanding jazz talent from the South of England, the two series will invite audiences everywhere to find out more about the artists and enjoy their new music.

Launching on Monday 2nd November, the 6-part podcast seriesJazz South Spotlight, will explore the influences, inspirations and musical backgrounds of 6 bands selected and commissioned by Jazz South to each write a new piece of music in 2020 as a reimagining of their original live performance programme.

The first episode will feature internationally acclaimed ECM recording artist Iain Ballamy and his quartet IBQT. Following episodes will present Fourth Page, Hexagonal, Kate Westbrook and the Granite Band, Sara Colman Band and We Are Leif.

Launching on Thursday 19th NovemberJazz South Radar Sessions will present weekly gigs at 7pm filmed in music venues and other surprise locations in the South, showcasing new work from an exciting and diverse line-up of 10 jazz composers. Each broadcast will feature a double bill, alongside interviews with the artists.

The opening broadcast will feature new music from Josephine Davies, winner of the 2019 Parliamentary Jazz Awards ‘Jazz Instrumentalist of the Year’, and award-winning pianist Robert Mitchell who will be combining music and poetry in a tribute to the legendary US politician and civil rights leader John Lewis.
 
Future weekly broadcasts will feature exciting new music from Olie Brice, Alexander Hawkins, Andrew Hayes (Run Logan Run), Hannah Jacobs, John Martin, Randolph Matthews, John Miles and Rebecca Nash.
