Full line-up revealed for this year’s Festa do Jazz 2022!

Discover the very best of Portuguese jazz with the usual mix of established and emerging artists, as well as round table discussions and the annual jazz school encounter. This year, the festival takes places at threeiconic venues in the Lisbon Belém area, each unique in its own right: the architecturally stunning CCB – Centro Cultural de Belém where the main concert programme takes place, the historic venue Picadeiro do Antigo Museu dos Coches which will host the National Encounter of Jazz Schools as well as two exclusive concerts, and the eclectic book shop and event space Ler Devagar at LX Factory with the jam sessions at night.

Beyond the diverse musical offering, Festa do Jazz will once again host panel discussions on relevant social topics.

SUMMARY

Friday, 16th of December
 
Festa do Jazz will celebrate its opening concert on Friday, the 16th of December, by extending an invitation to communities from all over Lisbon to join in this year’s celebration with Hamburg-based Trilok Gurtu, João Paulo Esteves da Silva, Yuri Daniel and guests (Carlos Martins, João Frade and Mário Delgado). 
 
Saturday, 17th of December
 
The festival weekend will host a multitude of concerts consisting of the already familiar mix of established and upcoming artists:
 
Saturday kicks off with two afternoon sessions at CCB: RTP/Festa do Jazz Award winner Nazaré da Silva with her quintet, followed by Hugo Carvalhais’ “Ascetica”. 
In the meantime the historic venue Picadeiro at Museu dos Coches will host the first of two panel discussions:“Culture and Citizenship: Improvisation is Inclusion”, starting at 15h. After that, the first part of the National Encounter of Jazz Schools will kick-off at 16h with the first five (out of ten) jazz combos from selected jazz schools from all over the country, competing for the prestigious Lurdes Júdice Awards for emerging artists, judged by an expert jury.
At 19h, the German-Danish trio DLW will close the first day at the Picadeiro.
 
At 21h Portuguese/Spanish duo Salvador Sobral and Marco Mezquida will kick-off the evening shows the CCB, followed by the all-female ensemble Lantana (22h) with musicians from Portugal, Sweden and Poland. 


In between the two shows the annual RTP/Festa do Jazz Awards will be presented by artistic director Carlos Martins and Antena 2 host João Almeida.
 
After a full day of concerts, the festival crowd will come together for the first of two jam session at Ler Devagar (LX Factory), starting at 23h with Tom Maciel and guests Thiago Alves and João Sousa.
 
Sunday, 18th of December
 
The final day of this year’s edition will start with the second panel discussion at the historic venue Picadeiro at Museu dos Coches: “The Sound of Lisbon: acoustic territories and the city”, at 15h. 
At 16h, the second and final part of this year’s National Encounter of Jazz Schools will take place at the Picadeiro with with the remaining five (out of ten) jazz combos from selected Portuguese jazz schools competing for the prestigious Lurdes Júdice Awards, judged by an expert jury.
The final concert at the historic Picadeiro venue will be the all-female trio HERSE, starting at 19h.
 
In the meantime over at the CCB the afternoon programme starts at 16h30 with JAZZOPA, a jazz-hip hop fusion project with participants from Portugal, Spain and Brazil, followed by “Ninhos”, a project by Joana Raquel and Miguel Meirinhos.
 
The evening programme will start at 21h with Perselí, a Portuguese-Scottish-Mexican trio, followed by Marques/Cabaud Quarteto with members from Argentina, Portugal and the United States at 22h30. In between both concerts will be the presentation of this year’s Lurdes Júdice Awards with the results of the National Encounter of Jazz Schools competition. 
 
At 23h the festival crowd will gather at Ler Devagar (LX Factory) for the final jam session, starting with Thiago Alves and guests Júlia Perminova and André Sousa Machado.
