Currently the London jazz scene is considered to be the most exciting, where young musicians such as Shabaka Hutchings and Nubya Garcia blend Jazz, Afrobeat and dance music into a euphoric mixture. Their music is created on the Underground and on the dancefloors and from there – with a little support from Gilles Peterson - storms the world stage. To celebrate the opening of a new series of London Jazz Calling, we have two exponents from this scene at the start, first away is Yazz Ahmed.

#1 The Bahraini-British trumpeter and flügelhorn player has played with Radiohead and John Zorn, experimented with electronic effects and combined sounds from the east and west. On her current album «La Saboteuse» she researches her roots and weaves Arabic melodies into an evocative, cinematic sound tapestry. Or, as the magazine Headphone Nation put it: «Even if you're not familiar or terribly interested in jazz, Ahmed's music deserves your attention, and she'll most likely make you second guess your thoughts on jazz!»
