Christian McBride and Edgar Meyer

Christian McBride and Edgar Meyer

When:
19 March 2016 (All day)

The term ‘double bass’ takes on new meaning as two of the greatest living practitioners of the instrument – jazz master Christian McBride and classical/folk/bluegrass Renaissance man Edgar Meyer – join forces for a thrilling exploration of the deep space beyond genre and expectation. This setting provides a chance to hear each of them with a level of intimacy and detail that is rare in larger settings. Playing a stylistically diverse programme including new original music for the two of them, they will explore previously unimagined possibilities for the double bass.

The deep, dark-maple tone that Christian McBride elicits from an upright bass is one of jazz’s forthright pleasures. New York Times

The most remarkable virtuoso in the relatively unchronicled history of his instrument… The New Yorker on Edgar Meyer
