Wytwórnia Foundation is a non-profit organisation located in the former Feature Film Production Company in Łódź, a birthplace of Polish cinematography and first Polish movie productions. Wytwórnia Foundation is is the organiser of the annual jazz festival — Summer Jazz Academy and the educational scheme for professional artists — Intl Jazz Platform.
Over the last few years Summer Jazz Academy has presented icons of Polish and world jazz scenes, consequently building ambitious programme and providing new artistic and educational opportunities. Taking the mix of international and Polish artists, and with a strong commitment to education being a core part of its activity, Summer Jazz Academy has been developing in a city undergoing serious transformation. Over the last ten years, the event has become an important celebration of the country's vibrant scene and unique personalities as well a stage presenting top-class jazz musicians from all over the world such as Charles Lloyd, Pharoah Sanders, Erlend Skomsvoll, liro Rantala, Michael Wollny, Ed Partyka Jazz Orchestra, Jim Black, Sidsel Endresen & Stian Westerhus, Sofia Jernberg & Mette Rassmusen, Beady Belle, Marcin Wasilewski Trio, Tomasz Stanko, or Mark Feldman. Summer Jazz Academy is also the festival of world's premieres. For the last three years the festival has commissioned new music from the leading Polish and international composers. For the 2017 edition of SJA the young and talented composer Nikola Kolodziejczyk prepared music for one of the best chamber orchestras in Poland - The AUKSO Chamber Orchestra of the City of Tychy and two soloists — Samuel Blaser, Swiss trombone player and Tomasz Dabrowski, Polish trumpet player.
Wytwórnia Foundation is also the organiser of Intl Jazz Platform — Master Workshop for Creative Jazz and Improvised Music, which provides an opportunity for European musicians to meet, share experiences, establish international contacts and learn from each other. The core aspect of the scheme is a partnership relation between students and members of faculty. Intl Jazz Platform is a much needed bridge between study-time and professional life. The workshop is all about free exchange of musical concepts and thoughts, about collective creation of music and peer-to-peer learning. For the last 5 years Intl Jazz Platform hosted the following artists as faculty members: John Escreet, Dominik Wania, Sidsel Endresen, Maciej Obara, Tom Arthurs, Ole Morten Vaagan, Andreas Lang, Jim Black, Thomas Stronen, Gard Nilssen and Jon Falt.
