Afijma, created in 1993, gathers 35 French and European contemporary jazz and improvised music festivals. Afijma’s objectives are mainly the promotion of French and European jazz and the development of international exchanges in order to make the programming of foreign jazz musicians in the French festivals and the programming of French jazz musicians abroad easier.

Gathered under a charter in ten points, our programming are in line with claimed cultural and citizen projects (development of the audience, actions in poor districts and in rural areas, creations of new compositions, artist-in-residence programs, education programme, special rate,…). In 2009, Afijma is opened to foreign festivals who sharing the same goal and objectives.

Over the past fifteen years, Afijma has always sought to be concrete in its actions, by working on three axis:

An international action: Invitation for European artistic directors, actions of collaboration and internationals exchanges (« Jazzé Croisé », with Italy, Austria, Germany, Netherlands, Scandinavia, Belgium, Central and Easten Europe countries), makers of European networking process, organization of international professional meetings,

A national action: co-production and circulation of new project, research in the field of economic aspect of productions, favour the circulation of new bands in France (« Jazz Migration »), work on partnership with many cultural institutions,

A reflection about “jazz worlds” : reflection on economy of productions and on cultural actions with the edition of « Cahiers de l’Afijma », active involvement in the construction of cultural policies in France, organization of symposiums.

Today Afijma, which has never shown the slightest interest in media begging, is an active network, which has inspire the action not only for some French networks, but also for many European countries.
