| HJF was founded in 1990 with the aim of promoting jazz nationwide. Its 300 members include professional and amateur musicians, journalists, promoters etc. HJF is a non-profit organization, which publishes printed and audiovisual publications, organizes competitions, workshops, an annual big band meeting and a national showcase each spring. It also offers professional help in the field of jazz to other organizations. Its board, consisting of highly recognized jazz musicians and experts in the field, meets monthly. The general assembly, held once a year, evaluates the work of the board, awards an outstanding musician with the Gabor Szabo Lifetime Achievement Award, and biannually elects a new board. The federation programs are funded by government support , membership fees and other sources. |
