Today starts Bohemia Jazz Festival 2015

The Bohemia Jazz Festival this year will take place between the 9 and 19 July 2015. The Festival, a member of the Europe Jazz Network, has become one of the largest summer music festivals in Europe, characterised by open-air concerts in spectacular medieval settings all free of entrance.

The 2015 edition will see the performance of American artists such as Terence Blanchard, Bill Frisell and Yellowjackets together with European ensambles like Antonio Lizana group (Spain), Tingvall trio (Germany), Mikromusic (Poland), Kompost 3 (Austria), Håkon Kornstad (Norway), Sunna Gunnlaugs Trio (Iceland) and many others. In addition Czech jazz scene will be represented by Noční Optika, Libor Smoldas trio, Vertigo and many more.

The festival started in 2006 by acclaimed jazz guitarist Rudy Linka, who wanted to present and promote world-class jazz in the Czech Republic. By 2010 it was drawing more than 70,000 jazz fans to historic town squares throughout the country, making a significant economic impact.

Together with the festival, the international music award Bohemia Jazz Award is presented annual since 2008 to a distinguished jazz artist for his/her work and a contribution to the art of jazz. The award, a glass sculpture symbolising a cobble stone, is designed by the famous artist Mr. Zdeněk Lhotský. The award is announced during the Bohemia Jazz Festival by the board of trustees. The winner of the 2015 JazzPrix Competition is Kristina Barta.

Thanks to the sponsors, patrons and supporters, Bohemia JazzFest has become more than just another music festival. It’s a summer ritual, a time when jazz fans throughout Central Europe gather in the Czech Republic to hear some of the world’s greatest performers – for free.
