Riga Jazz Stage 2018 pre-selection results

Jury has invited 29 young jazz talents to perform at a Live Performance concert on April 5th in Riga, Splendid Palace.


The record number of application submissions received this year contributed to an especially tough choice for the jury. 65 musicians from 22 countries has submitted their applications to participate in the contest. However, only 39 of them were admitted to continue to the Pre-selection round. In accordance with the Terms & Conditions of the contest, Jury has selected 29 contestants - 11 bass players and 18 vocalists, to show their talents upon the spotlight of Live Performance concert on April 5th in Riga, Splendid Palace.

Live Performance concert will take place at Splendid Palace on April 5 and young jazz talents will perform accompanied by Riga Jazz Quartet presented by Viktors Ritovs (piano), Artis Orubs (drums), Andris Grunte (bass) and Rihards Goba (guitar). The finest 12 contestants will continue to the round 3, and perform at the Contest Final on April 6. The winners will be announced at the Gala concert on April 7.

The contest is also proudly announcing the Artist in Residence 2018 is the sensational Brazilian bass player - Michael Pipoquinha. He will also give a workshop, be a part of Jury and present the special project “Tribute to Jaco” together with the Latvian Radio Big Band on April 7 at the Gala concert.
