ImproveU & NovaraJazz 2018

NovaraJazz opened this year with a concert of an entire week of "residence", the concert of ImproveU European Park Trio + Emanuele Parrini, a project curated by Enrico Bettinello, commissioned by NovaraJazz. ImproveU European Park Trio is a trio that combines three young, innovative and creative musicians from Finland, Italy and Norway. The Finnish saxophonist Linda Fredriksson, the English bassist Silvia Bolognesi and the Norwegian drummer Håkon Berre make a creative triangle in which different improvisation languages merge. Linking strong musical traditions and experiences from the most adventurous African-American lands, this trio is always open to collaborations and connections. And for this reason in his first residence in Novara, the violinist Emanuele Parrini joined them.

NovaraJazz 2018 continues until Sunday 10th June with concerts that bring to the city national and International artists. Also this edition speaks international languages, bringing different cultures and generations into dialogue. Two particularly symbolic moments are the concerts inside Basilica of San Gaudenzio by Hanks Roberts (2/06) and John Surman (9/06), which will be awarded with the Golden Key NovaraJazz 2018.

The first Italian concert of Horse Lords (1/06), a powerful American jazz-punk band, and Goran Kajfes Subtropic Arkestra (9/06), one of the most visionary ensembles on the contemporary European scene; the prestigious Belgian trio De Beren Gieren (8/06), in a very modern rereading of a piano trio.

The concert of The Young Mothers (8/06), a US group suspended between jazz and hip hop, and the solo of its leader Ingebrigt Håker Flaten (10/06) at Galleria Giannoni; the infectious afrobeat of Nubiyan Twist (2/06); a new project by Gianluigi Trovesi for the Oleggio Philharmonic Orchestra with Rudy Migliardi (7/06) and a gash on young Italian talents, from the trio of Matteo Bortone (31/05) to the project by Pasquale Mirra, Filippo Vignato, Zeno De Rossi, Giorgio Pacorig with Hank Roberts (31/05).
