Forward-thinking French jazz on BMC Records

Budapest-based record label BMC Records has recently released two new forward-thinking French jazz albums with a fresh attitude: Ornette Under The Repetitive Skies III by Clément Janinet and Bestiaire #01 | Explorations by Matthieu Donarier. Shining exponents of European jazz join forces on these albums, pooling their skills and personal experiences, to give listeners a thought-provoking and also liberating experience.

ORNETTE UNDER THE REPETITIVE SKIES III is the brainchild of violinist Clément Janinet. It’s griot jazz and workshop pleasure, combining heritage and on-the-spot invention with infinite panache. Janinet’s quartet features Hugues Mayot, Joachim Florent and Emmanuel Scarpa playing music that’s as mischievous as some pieces by Ornette Coleman, the historical reference for the band. With this album the quartet renews the definition of their music, while fully aware of which of the old concepts of rhythm and harmony can be shaken up by new ones.

Stories woven about the observation of living creatures form the basis for the series BESTIAIRE by French saxophonist Matthieu Donarier, and the first album in it, EXPLORATIONS featuring Eve Risser, Karsten Hochapfel and Toma Gouband. In this release, shining exponents of European jazz join forces, pooling their skills and personal experiences, to give listeners a thought-provoking and also liberating experience. One of the greatest strengths of this album is that it gives space to instinctive music-making and soaring imagination: Bestiaire draws horizons, moves mountains and ignites illuminations, it blows mists and creates a bustling animal world.
