The new album from brilliant pianist Elliot Galvin, which manages to combine angular indie rock guitars with imaginative modern piano trio jazz – it also has a great back story and set of influences – not least how technology controls our lives and Brexit! (He’s anti-Brexit by the way!).

Dmitry Ilugdin Trio «Reflection» (ArtBeat Music)

This is the second album recorded by Moscow-based pianist Dmitry Ilugdin as a leader, an honest jazz acoustic piano trio record with fiery drumming (Peter Ivshin) and rock-solid acoustic bass (Viktor Shestak,) but also with a twist of Russian classical music sensuality, European power jazz rhythmic ambivalence, and several very nice melodies to add to the pot.

Bobo Stenson has long been a key person in the European jazz scene through his long-standing commitment with ECM Records since the first year of the label with his clear-edged lyrical piano playing. He has been internationally successful with his long-standing own trio, since 2007 with Swedish bandmates, drummer Jon Fält and bass player Anders Jormin. On the first trio disk since 2012's Indicum, the trio continuous with its characteristic deep poetical, lyrical, sophisticated vocabulary with clear features of chamber, folk music and jazz. The sound is characteristic, but the music still offers a strong organic, rhythmic and very dynamic feeling.
