Applications – manchester jazz festival 2019

There will be some exciting changes to the festival format in 2019. We will also be moving the timing of the festival forward in the year to May 23 – 27, covering the late May Bank Holiday weekend. Additionally, since we are unable to occupy Albert Square whilst renovation works are in progress, we’ll be rolling out a range of performance opportunities that will differ to the venues, timings and set lengths that have been established over recent years. See below for the range of opportunities on offer.

mjf hothouse
If you’re 18 years + and are put off by traditional grant application processes then mjf hothouse is for you. hothouse offers industry support to those looking to develop new ideas and refine their craft. Each round consists of eight weeks of industry mentoring, paid rehearsal time, bespoke workshops and a by invite only performance workshop where participants gain industry feedback for the work that they present, whatever its stage.

Applications for round three of hothouse are now open. If you would like to apply for round three of the hothouse, click here to read our tips for applying.

Artists’ Submissions for 2019
Remember, we’re a contemporary jazz festival and we champion artists playing original work – especially those living and working in the north west of England. Check out our 2018 programme to get a feel for some of the artists who have appeared previously. We were the first festival to pioneer an open artists’ submission system and it still forms the basis of our programme today.

It’s easy to get your music through to us and we listen to it all: make sure you read through the guidelines and then fill in the online form.

Applications at mjf 2019 are now open, click here for the full submission criteria.

Irwin Mitchell mjf originals 2019
This is a unique opportunity on the UK jazz landscape – the chance to devise, rehearse and premiere a major brand new work at mjf, and to have all aspects of the creative process supported financially and logistically by mjf.

The Irwin Mitchell mjf originals commission is aimed at developing the profile of artists living and working in the north west, so this is a top priority when we consider proposals, as well as the quality of the concept.

Previous winners include Neil Yates, John Ellis, Olivia Moore, Anton Hunter, Ben Cottrell, Andy Stamatakis-Brown and Esther Swift
