With Django Reinhardt’s swinging music as its starting point, the Strong and Silent Types play an exciting and soulful mix of gypsy swing, South-American rumba and bossa, and French musette. And they’re even handsome, too!
The band has experienced memorable moments on stage in their native Netherlands as well as abroad, ranging from big festivals to small events. It is no surprise that they enjoy the steady attention of a troupe of loyal admirers.

10 BALLES LE SWING
Jazz standards and Django Reinhardt’s music. This trio sometimes distils a furious ironclad swing and at other times they disclose felted arrangements on mythical ballads. In a pocket, a café or at the zenith “10 Balles le Swing” invites you to share a musical moment of good vibrations that will end in a cheerful atmosphere (and that’s for sure!)
Antoine, Guitar: half human-half grizzly bear, he will carry you into a sheer gypsy jazz atmosphere. His right hand could be entitled to the prize of the most worthy wood cutter and his left hand is as fast as the famous Mexican mouse. He has a slight preference for fine melodies. He knows his job, and that’s a fact! His addiction (or passion) is obviously Gypsy jazz…
Simon, Guitar: mixed clone of Elvis and Coluche - he fell in love with Django while meditating one morning. He has been striving to perpetuate the right rhythm and the finest notes ever since. Isn’t a serious technician (but he does what he can!), you’ll be delighted by his humour and his musicality.
David known as “Daduf”, bass: as square as a beat box only more hairy and nicer! This groovy boy with a funky history hides behind his walking bass a “Marcus Millering” swing. He drives the trio into a vitriolic groove with his tall blond acoustic and fretless beauty. His dream is to make Earth Wind and Fire’s rhythm section dance to one of his bass chorus.

Giacomo Smith's swinging quintet of 2 guitars, clarinet, trumpet and bass.
CLUB ROYALE
Was it fate's cruel joke to music lovers that two of the greatest Jazz musicians, Django Reinhardt and Sidney Bechet, lived and played in Paris at the same time and yet never recorded together!
What, one might ask, might it have been like…? We shall never know. However, it is precisely the dream of Bechet and Django jamming together in the Paris of the immediate post war period that has inspired the musical styling of Club Royale.
The ‘bark’ of electric Django meeting the ‘roar’ of Bechet’s horn is a hip combination as this groups ‘chamber music swing’ demonstrates with tremendous virtuosity. Featuring the talents of Giacomo Smith (clarinet, soprano sax) and Robin Katz (guitar) and inviting some very special guests, Club Royale will swing it and bring it.
